Ceresville Mansion is a wedding venue in Frederick, Maryland. Its charm leaves so many wanting to get married there, and there are so many great spaces to do so at Ceresville! Whether you’re deciding if it’s the right venue for you and would like help envisioning the space, or if you are planning your wedding there and want more direction, here are some layouts I created for a couple that got married at Ceresville in June of 2024. They wanted to host their ceremony outside in front of the pergola, their cocktail hour inside the house, and then return outside for the al fresco dinner of their dreams. This means we had to flip the space while the guests were inside sipping on their cocktails and eating mini tarts, so all the layout and plans had to be clear and ready for option A, B, or C!
All of my layouts are made using my favorite layout platform – Merri! I love how they can make the space so realistic to truly get the best feel of the different locations. Look through the layouts below as you’re thinking through your wedding day!

For the ceremony, we did equal seating of 10 chairs per side and 9 rows. This layout was created for 172 guests as we took off multiple chairs in the front two rows for reserved family seating. If you filled in those chairs, you would have seating for 180 guests. Be mindful of the pond down the middle when planning the ceremony. Typically, the bride or the first partner will come from the top corner down the sidewalk and walk to the left of the pond, and the groomsmen + other partner will come from the ballroom (bottom door pictured) and walk to the right of the pond.

To host both the cocktail hour and dancing inside the mansion, we had seating tables around the dance floor as well as high tops. We added a secondary bar in the ballroom (in addition to the main stationery bar in the mansion) due to their high guest count. The dessert bar was placed in front of the fireplace and DJ Romin Zandi live mixed the cocktail hour from the ballroom.

The bride wanted to have as many rectangular tables as possible to feel like a big family dinner, so we used all of the 6 and 8 foot tables that Ceresville has while still keeping it symmetrical. We used all in-house linens and in-house rentals, placing the champagne round linens on the outside to make an impact while using the ivory linens for the rectangular tables.

While no one likes to talk about it, I like to say that if you plan for it, it won’t happen! With a larger guest count and having so many elements outside, you need to have a clear rain plan in case the weather does not allow for plan A. While creating your rain plan layout, you also need to make sure that each table grouping will fit into the rain plan layout. As you can see in our layout, we used mostly round tables for the backup and eliminated many rectangle tables due to the shape of the ballroom, but each table grouping was still able to be at the same table number inside.

While there are lots of things to think through as you build your layout, it’s vital to have an experienced wedding planner by your side to think through each of these scenarios.
