Something you may not consider when planning your wedding and the decor are the textures! Texture tends to get missed but is so important for the overall feel of the day and the mood that you set. Soft chiffon or beachside patterns can bring a casual and welcoming feeling while velvet and lace bring more sophistication and refinement. When thinking of your tablescapes, here are 5 ways to incorporate textures:

1. Candles

What kind of candles will you have and what will the holders look like? Will the votive holders have a pattern and what color will the candle holders be? You can switch out the taper candle holders for a clay, or have them be a metal to match your utensils. Talk to your florist about how to make the candles cohesive to the overall design!

2. Plates and Chargers

It’s important not to overload the table, but instead pick meaningful plates that forward your story and feeling even more. What patterns can you pick that display your theme?

3. Linens

Your linens (tablecloth, napkin, and maybe table runner) should be cohesive but can include patterns or colors. The type of fabric will also change the feel – do you want to include a silk or velvet, or stick to polyester and invest in texture elsewhere? I love bringing a pop of pattern or color in with the napkin!

4. Flowers

The flower choices and vases make a huge difference in the overall vibe! Your florist will know best, but think about experimenting with the vases to be cohesive to the other pieces on the table.

5. Patterns

You can have different patterns within the glassware, the vases, plates, etc., but you need to make sure they are cohesive. Using different patterns that work well together brings depth and dimension and shows intentionality.

The textures you choose to use will help bring your tables and wedding to the next level. That’s why working with an experienced planner will ensure that each piece flows together and tells the story you want to tell. I’m a big believer that every little detail is important, even down to the type of votive candle holder you use! Is there anywhere else that you would incorporate texture into your tablescape?
