Ellen & Jake met in Washington, DC through some friends after living separately in the area for some time. Although they both grew up in California, their life together began in the District. Naturally, they wanted to gather their friends and family in the city they love most.
Getting married in the Fall in October, they wanted to slightly nod at fall within the design, but lean into the fun architecture of the Line, and soft colors of the summer. Their flowers included blush pink, soft oranges, and lots of greenery.
Their wedding was on the rooftop underneath the permanent tent, with the chandeliers adorned with greenery and flowers to soften the space. Their friend officiated their ceremony, which was probably the sweetest and funniest ceremony I’ve ever heard.
Following the ceremony, the guests made their way down to the Mezzanine for cocktail hour. This space overlooks the hotel cafe and bar and features one of the coolest structures, a chandelier made from organ pipes from the old church.
After some yummy cocktails and delicious food, the reception began in the Banneker ballroom downstairs. Their cake included a figurine of their dog Oliver, who had to make his appearance somewhere. Their table numbers were custom artwork, which pictured scenes from some of their favorite movies. For the newlywed’s grand entrance, they recreated the handshake from “The Parent Trap”. Shortly after, they shared their choreographed first dance, designed by Jorge from Yours Truly Dance in NW DC. Impressively, they had learned it just in time, as only weeks earlier, Ellen had sprained both of her ankles. That couldn’t stop her from dancing at her wedding!
Ellen and Jake have been through the hardest of times and the best of times together, all of which demonstrate their kind yet fierce love for each other.
It is truly a gift to witness a love like theirs. Even more, it is a joy to know them.
